Next Race: February 2026
OCE/ Bismarck / Wolves Den
A storied tradition said to have rooted itself in the basement of the Upright Thieves, rat racing fell into the shadows of Lominsan history. Following an upsurge in the popularity of trained rats, the Hullbreaker beast tamers contingency is hosting a meet and greet for upcoming ratters to take to the sport. Pick your rat, train your rat, race your rat. Become Eorzea's greatest Rat King.

1. All Racers must be Verified Vermin
Only tiny rats, domesticated chinchillas, hamsters or rat adjacent creatures are eligible.
No magitek replica rats. We will check.
2. Races are one lap around the "Gutter Gauntlet" track (usually cobbled together with crates and ale barrels)
3. Carbuncle may observe, Carbuncle may not race. The same applies to other Egi.
Spectator GuidelinesNo stepping on the track.Throwing snacks is allowed, but must be small and rodent-safe.
Vendor Guidelines
1. Controlled Flame Only
Open fires are prohibited after last year's "Baked Rat-on-a-Stick" incident.
2. Cleanliness is Encouraged, Not Required
Surfaces must be wiped at least once per bell. Rats spotted in or near food stalls are assumed to be part of the theme unless they start cooking.
3. No Cooking the Racers
If your dish includes "rat meat," you must present certified documentation that it is not from the race track. We check. Occasionally.

These Guidelines are all only for fun.*

Turn Order
----------
At the start of the race, each Rat will have a d20 rolled. For each Rat, add its Zoomies bonus ( Up to +4 ) to the roll. This will determine the turn order.
In the case of a tie in the initiative roll with Zoomies bonus between two rats, add each Rat's Guts bonus ( Up to +4 ) to the roll. The higher of the two will go first. If this ties as well, SUBTRACT each Rat's Rotundity bonus ( Up to -4) from the roll. The higher number will go first.Advancing
---------
Each Rat advances, in fulms, by d20 roll. A rat will have its Zoomies bonus added to its roll (Up to +4) for as many turns as it has Guts bonus. (Up to 4 turns.)
[Example. A Rat has a +4 in Zoomies and a +2 in Guts. This Rat will get +4 to its Advancing rolls for 2 turns.]
Each rat has a pause on advance and a skill check when they reach an advance of 50; 70 and 95. In practice, this means each rat has a hard stop at 50; 70 and 95 before they may continue their advance unfettered. This repeats two more times. See the obstacles section below.
[Example. The earlier mentioned Rat rolled two 20s and had +4 to each roll. It is at 48 fulms. An obstacle is at 50 fulms. The next roll for this Rat is another 20. The Rat, however, meets the obstacle at 50. The rat only gains the +2 fulms of distance from the 20 roll. The rat must pass the skill check of the obstacle to continue with a new roll.]Obstacles
---------
The race host will roll a d4 three times. This determines the obstacles for the race. Each obstable is a skill check for the rat, that prohibits the rat from advancing. If the rat fails the skill check, it does not advance this turn, and instead does silly rat things on the course. After TWO turns where a Rat does not advance due to a failed skill check, the Rat's Guts Bonus will be added to the roll. In the case of a Guts check, this value will be added a second time. On a THIRD turn where the rat fails this check, the Guts Bonus will be MULTIPLIED by the Gumption bonus and added to the roll.Obstacles are located at the following sections of the race: 50 fulms; 70 fulms; 95 fulms. The finish line is at 120 fulms.1: Water Section. Rats must roll above a 12 to advance past the water section. Add the Rat's Zoomies bonus to the roll (Up to +4).
2: Rocky Terrain. Rats must roll above a 14 to advance past the rocky terrain. Add the Rat's Gumption bonus to the roll (Up to +4).
3: Slicked Terrain. Rats must roll above a 16 to advance past the slick terrain. Add the Rat's Rotundity bonus to the roll (Up to +4).
4: Cheese trapped Terrain. Rats must resist the temptation of cheese and roll above a 15. Add the Rat's Guts bonus to the roll (Up to +4).
Rats begin with a one (1) in each of four attributes.
Zoomies: Moving quickly, whether it's leaping, climbing, running or swimming. (Speed)
Gumption: Ability to react to obstacles on the course. (Dexterity)
Rotundity: Remain steadfast in course adversity thanks to their generous roundness. (Constitution)
Guts : Staying power of the rat to commit to its goal. (Stamina)After each sanctioned race, a Rat will gain one (1) Attribute Point, up to a total of four (4) additional Attribute Points.A Rat may never have added to its stat values more than the four (4) additional Attribute Points. Where these points are allocated do not change, unless the Rat is reskilled, and it is up to the Rat's owner where these Attribute Points are added.
Be sure to tell your Race Host where you want the Attribute Points allocated at the end of the sanctioned race.
After a sanctioned race, the Rat will have its "Plus values" updated to notate how many additional Attribute Points it has gained during its tenure as a racer.A Base Attribute rat will become Rat +1. A Rat +1 will become a Rat +2. A Rat +2 will become a Rat +3. A Rat +3 will become a Champion Rat. (+4)
To re-skill a Rat, the racer must feed the Rat CHEESE.CHEESE will reset the Rat's Attributes to the Base Values. It will not allow for the re-allocation of Attribute Points. The Rat, regardless of its Plus Value ( +1; +2; +3; +4) will be reset to a Base Attribute Rat with a 1 in each Attribute.
Participate in sanctioned races in order to gain Attribute Points to re-skill the Rat.
Rats will race with other rats who have similar Plus Values.
Beginner's Cup Races.
Rats with Base Attributes and Rats with +1 Plus Value.
Intermediate Cup Races.
Rats with +2 to +3 Plus Values.
Champion's Cup Races.
Rats with +4 Plus Value only.
This is done in the interest of fairness, and to keep Rats with similar skill levels together.
Unsanctioned Rat Races can occur with rats of any skill level for fun, and unsanctioned rat races do not allocate Attribute Points.
We have two methods for signing up to race.First, is to click here to join the discord and let us know you will be in attendance. This is the only surefire way to be allowed to race, as there can only be a maximum of 5 racers at a time. The other method is to sign up during the first 15 minutes of the event, so long as there is an open slot to join.Once the first 15 minutes has passed, the races begin.Racers who sign up within the first 15 minutes of the event have two choices:
Sign up with a rat of their own.
Sign up with a sanctioned rat. (Think of it as a trial-rat. All the fun of a rat you own, none of the obligation to feed and house it.)
Sign up to be one of our vendors HERE!
After you join the Discord, you will want to check the RP announcements channel or upcoming events channel to post that you are wanting to vend in the current rat race thread. If you do not want to join the discord, but still wish to vend, DM dndogge on discord.
